While not really an advertising campaign, I think cosplays are super fun to work on, and getting creative with them is one of the most rewarding endeavors I've ever, uh, endeavored.
This wasn't at Comic Con in 2010, but Wizard World in 2015. I also designed the costume that the guy (my buddy) next to me is wearing—he's a Splicer from the Bioshock Universe.
Someone mistook me for Aziz Ansari on Wizarding World's Instagram page. I wasn't offended, because Aziz Ansari is actually a pretty neat guy.
My first cosplay ever—as long as you don't consider any ambitious Halloweens. This was during San Diego Comic Con in 2010 (also my first Comic Con), which was around the time The Dark Knight had come out (which was, regrettably, Heath Ledger's final film). I loved the movie because the Joker is my favorite super villain, and I knew that there would be Joker and Batman cosplays galore. So, being the Clown Prince of Comedy that I am, I thought that it would be fun to make a muppet of the Joker and antagonize any other Jokers/Batmen I ran into. Following are a few of the better ones (plus one Superman as a bonus).
This is a cosplay that I'm still—to this day—playing with because I like it so much (that's not to speak about any of the games past Black Flag, though—I've been really disappointed with them as of late, but that's another conversation). The stickers that you see here (the circular things with the red Abstergo logo) are a little cosplay game I invented. The idea was to bring the multiplayer facet of the Assassin's Creed games to real life. I would go out and seek other Assassin's Creed cosplayers, and "assassinate" them by sticking one of these stickers on their person somewhere. If I got busted (which did happen), I would give them a clutch of stickers as a souvenir. Fortunately, it has never gotten my ass kicked; most people find it amusing, and I would not be above apologizing profusely in the case I did offend someone.
This one was actually a Halloween costume that might get worn to a convention someday. That totally counts as a cosplay, right?
